For example, a Houston football player immediately after the recent flooding and devastation in Houston (the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey) set up an emergency on-line account for donations to help the people of Houston expecting to raise a few hundred thousand dollars but in reality he raised over $33 million! This speaks volumes to the importance of an “emotional connection” to our charitable causes. We all acknowledge that structured charitable causes have and will continue to be part of our lives whether through our religious organizations (all religions have a formalized charitable policy) our work place or some other focus charity campaign. It seems that unless an emotional connection is personally made our charitable donation is largely decided by our intellect and by routine (which is still substantial). However seeing images of natural disasters and the devastation and suffering first-hand pulls on our heart strings and opens our purse strings. Thank you.
